Unfinished Business: Let's Finish What We Started for Anchorage Schools

ree

Hello Anchorage families, teachers, and community members! It has been a bit since my last blog post here on www.alexforschoolboardak.com, but I've stayed busy connecting with you all. I've posted daily on social media under @alexforschools across all social media platforms. On Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok, IG, and all over the world wide web; we have been sharing updates on education issues that matter most based on feedback I have received from all of you that have filled out our Fall Survey. Plus, I've hosted our weekly X Space called "Sunday School Board" every Sunday at 2 PM, diving into topics like school safety, parental choice, and how we boost Alaska's education ranking from 46th in the nation. If you haven't tuned in yet, join us this weekend. It's a great way to ask questions without having to wait to grab a microphone at a town hall in the spring; and to get involved.

Jennifer Gracey and I learned a ton from our 2025 campaign, where we earned over 23,000 votes by focusing on the top five priorities you told us matter: advocating for school choice so parents decide what's best for their kids, creating safe learning environments free from fear, pushing for local control where teachers and families guide decisions instead of federal bureaucrats, improving our dismal national rankings (Anchorage schools deserve better than last place), and fostering student pride and purpose each day. We celebrate Anchorage's incredible diversity; one of the most diverse places in the world, and our schools most definitely reflect that. I embody what makes diversity work so well, it is not diversity just for the sake of filling a quota. Rather, true strength comes from our unified front, where we embrace our differences while upholding shared moral standards and a joint vision that binds us together—turning potential divisions into a powerful, cohesive whole that drives real progress and community resilience. As a Dad, Veteran with over 20 years of honorable service, and lifelong educator and community leader, I am committed to practical fixes like smaller class sizes and cutting administrative waste through results-based leadership.

This time, we're coming in strong with the slogan "Unfinished Business." It's my school board seat to lose, and we're putting in the work to win it decisively, aiming for 30,600 votes through efficient, grassroots efforts. Last campaign, we spent just $0.11 per vote on average, proving we deliver massive impact without wasting money. Something that the established ASD School Board stalwarts can never do. We're calling on everyone who voted for change last time to join us again! We'll improve those last-in-the-nation results by prioritizing kids over bureaucracy.

The opposition this time around? Even though the names are unproven, they are backed by the usual suspects who've controlled the school board for a decade. Their plan? Spending big (over $50,000 expected) and using every tactic to limit your voice to just two minutes biweekly. But we're different: I am not a system-bred politician tied to special groups. With my global experience and grit, I'm running to ensure not just a select few get a say, everyone does. Our kids deserve better, especially with voter turnout declining in our city and state. This election targets the 75% who feel ignored, those without time, energy, or resources to fight. I'm stepping up as your voice, working beyond the normal 9-5, to represent you.

That's why I'm excited to announce our first-ever campaign kickoff fundraiser on November 12, 2025, at 6:30 PM at VFW Post 9785 in Eagle River, Alaska. For this 2026 municipal election, with voting on April 7th, we're reimagining how candidates run in Alaska. Jennifer Gracey has completely set the standard for how a digital presence should be for every single candidate in Alaska should be represented going forward, including me: transparent, community-driven, and focused on impact. Come show support, ask questions, and be part of building something real. You'll see the shift Alaskans have craved for years: a school board that puts parents, safety, local control, and excellence first. This isn't for me, it's for you, our students, and our cities' future.

Can't make it? Reach out if you're ready to help volunteer, or share this with at least one friend who might attend. And consider donating any amount at www.alexforschoolboardak.com/donate. Based on our track record, $1 gets us about 9 votes. Try a $9.07 nod to Alaska, an easy $20 will make a huge impact, or $49 to set us apart from the lower 48. Every penny builds toward better schools. Let's go!
