I’m Running for Anchorage School Board Because I’m a Parent—Just Like You.
"I grew up in a hard-working immigrant family, where education wasn’t just important—it was everything. I know what it is like to struggle in school. I barely graduated high school with a 1.0 GPA and had to figure things out the hard way. That’s why I joined the military—to build a future for myself and my family."
Legacy of Service. Leadership. Advocacy.
Every leader has a story, and mine is rooted in service, resilience, and a commitment to building a stronger future for our children. As a father of two ASD students, a military veteran with 20+ years of leadership experience, and an educator who has worked inside our schools, I’ve dedicated my life to problem-solving, accountability, and standing up for those who need a voice.
My journey didn’t follow the traditional path. I graduated high school by the skin of my teeth and quickly realized the system wasn’t designed for students like me. Instead of giving up, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where I learned the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I went on to serve in combat zones, train future leaders, managed and audited multimillion-dollar operations, all while earning my MBA and proving that education isn’t one-size-fits-all.
After retiring from the military, I transitioned into teaching, becoming the first person in Alaska to navigate the Skillbridge program to work in ASD schools. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges students and teachers face, and I know we can do better.
I’m running for the Anchorage School Board because our kids deserve safe schools, strong academic opportunities, and leadership that puts families first. I believe in listening to parents, empowering teachers, and ensuring that every child—no matter their background—has the opportunity to succeed.
Our community is one of the most diverse in the nation, and as a second-generation American of Mexican and German heritage, I understand the value of bringing all voices to the table. My mission is simple: to serve, to advocate, and to ensure that Anchorage's schools are a place where every student can thrive.
Leadership. Accountability. Results.
