Candidate Questionnaire: Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates

I answer every questionnaire honestly so Anchorage families know where I stand. Parents deserve to decide what is best for their children. I completed this questionnaire for full transparency and not for endorsement. I was curious, like many parents, as to what is in the survey. I do not support this organization in any way and I feel it is very enlightening to see what politicians must agree to, to earn the endorsement. There are many on our School Board and Assembly that have been endorsed by Planned Parenthood. See my responses to Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates here. Submitted on February 15, 2026.

How will you prioritize access to family planning, public funding for sexual and reproductive health care, access to medical providers, health care reform, abortion rights, access to emergency contraception, and/or sex education in your race?
The Anchorage School District has no right or role to come between a child and their parents on sensitive personal or health decisions. Parents must guide family planning, reproductive health, sex education, and related topics for their own children. My campaign focuses on safe schools where every child learns without fear, smaller classes by cutting administrative waste, parental choice over bureaucrats, local control by teachers and parents, and strong academics in reading, math, science, and critical thinking. These priorities build student pride and purpose while lifting Anchorage from near-last national rankings. Health care decisions belong to families and medical providers, not the school district.
We seek to support candidates for office who represent the broad range of diversity and lived experiences in our communities. What about your interests, your life, or campaign position you to represent diverse communities? I grew up in a mixed-race household with my dad from Juárez, Mexico, and my grandmother a Dachau survivor. I have traveled to over 50 countries and served 20 years in the Air Force alongside military brothers and sisters of nearly every ethnicity and background. As a Dad of two ASD students, homeschool parent, former educator and lunch lady in Anchorage schools, I bring real-world experience serving diverse families. My campaign promotes unity through American values, respect for all communities, and practical improvements: safe campuses, parental choice, local control, and strong academics so every Anchorage child, regardless of background, can thrive with pride and purpose.
What other elected / appointed offices have you sought or held? Please include year and jurisdiction.
No public elected or appointed offices held. I serve on the Executive Council for the Air Force Sergeants Association JBER Chapter 1473, where I have held various leadership roles over the last 10+ years, advocating for military pay, benefits, and family support.
What ratings and endorsements have you received to date? I have earned international-level awards, including International Member of the Year from the Air Force Sergeants Association (topping 110,000 members), and Instructor of the Year in the Air Force. A few organizations have endorsed my campaign, but I am not beholden to any group. I run to represent parents, teachers, and students first and foremost.
Do you belong, or have you ever belonged to a group opposed to abortion? Yes, I am Catholic. Have you sought or received the endorsement of a group opposed to abortion? No, I have not sought or received such an endorsement. I am independent and not beholden to any organization. Have you ever personally supported a Planned Parenthood organization? If yes, which one?
No. "Abortion and Sexual & Reproductive Health Care Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates is a fierce defender and proponent for reproductive autonomy. We believe that the decision about whether and how to raise a child, to have an abortion, or to pursue adoption must be left to that individual without government interference. Alaska is one of the few states where abortion remains legal and constitutionally protected under the state’s explicit right to privacy and equal protection. However, political leaders continue efforts to undermine these protections, restrict access, and erode reproductive freedom. In Anchorage, municipal leaders play a powerful role in ensuring residents can safely access the health care guaranteed to them under Alaska law." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates Do you believe that abortion is a fundamental right and that personal medical decisions should remain free from government interference? No "Affordable and Accessible Sexual & Reproductive Health Care Services
Planned Parenthood health centers play a vital role in our communities, providing essential sexual and reproductive health care for millions of people nationwide and thousands of people in Alaska each year, including at Anchorage’s health center. Recent federal actions—including the temporary block on Planned Parenthood receiving federal Medicaid funds in 2025, reductions to Title X funding, and the ongoing threat of policies like the “gag rule” that limit providers’ ability to offer full, unbiased information—continue to strain access to care in Alaska over the long term. Anchorage’s municipal leaders can play a key role in ensuring residents can continue to access the services they need by supporting local funding mechanisms, opposing harmful ordinances, and championing community partnerships that protect and expand health care access for all." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates

LGBTQ Rights and Anti-Discrimination Protections
"Everyone deserves high-quality, affordable health care—no matter who they are, who they love, or how they identify. When LGBTQ+ people are supported and free from discrimination, they thrive, and so do their families and communities. Anchorage is home to one of Alaska’s largest LGBTQ+ communities and has long served as a statewide leader on nondiscrimination protections. However, LGBTQ+ people in Alaska — including youth — continue to face high rates of bullying, harassment, and mental health challenges, which worsen when schools and communities lack inclusive policies. Municipal leaders play a critical role in ensuring Anchorage remains a safe, inclusive community. Planned Parenthood health centers proudly provide inclusive, affirming care—including gender affirming services—and PPAA strongly supports maintaining and strengthening local protections so LGBTQ+ Anchorage residents can live full, healthy lives." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates

OPTIONAL: Would you like to share any additional comments on how you would protect reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, and community health as an Anchorage municipal leader? (Yes or No)
Children are not and cannot be trans. They cannot consent to decisions about gender identity or related medical interventions. The Anchorage School District has no role or authority in these personal matters. Parents must guide sensitive decisions for their own children. My focus as a school board candidate is safe campuses where every child learns without fear, smaller classes by cutting administrative waste, parental choice over bureaucrats, local control by teachers and parents, and strong academics in reading, math, science, and critical thinking to lift Anchorage from near-last national rankings. Every child deserves to start their day with pride and purpose, and that begins with respecting parental rights and keeping schools focused on education. Youth Health and Sexual Health Education "Anchorage families, including parents, overwhelmingly support high-quality, age-appropriate sexual health education in schools. Research consistently shows that abstinence-only or “sexual risk avoidance” programs are ineffective and fail to give young people the information they need to prevent pregnancy, STIs, and sexual violence. Local governments, school boards, and community partners all play a role in ensuring Anchorage youth receive accurate, age-appropriate information." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates Will you support local funding, partnerships, or programming that expand access to evidence-based sexual health education for Anchorage’s youth? (Yes or No) No Will you oppose the use of public dollars for abstinence-only programs that are proven to be ineffective and harmful? (Yes or No) No Health Equity, Safe and Sustainable Communities, and Reproductive Justice
"Reproductive justice means ensuring every person has the resources, support, and freedom to make decisions about their bodies, families, and lives—and to raise children in safe, healthy communities. Anchorage’s municipal government plays a critical role in building equitable systems, addressing health disparities, and ensuring all residents can thrive." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates
Will you support local policies and programs that address maternal and infant health disparities, including racial disparities in health outcomes? (Yes or No)
No
Will you oppose cooperation with law enforcement or other government entities when such cooperation would compromise the health, safety, or privacy of Planned Parenthood patients and the communities we serve? (Yes or No)
No
Will you support efforts to ensure local law enforcement does not contribute to the criminalization of reproductive health care or pregnancy outcomes? (Yes or No)
No
Will you support municipal policies and programs that strengthen democratic participation and protect Anchorage residents’ access to voting? (Yes or No)
Yes My Commitment to Planned Parenthood
"Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates strongly encourages endorsed candidates to champion reproductive health issues above and beyond maintaining a 100 percent voting record while in office. Being a champion can take many forms, such as sponsoring ordinances for PPAA, proactively seeking PPAA’s expertise when addressing issues that affect Planned Parenthood and the communities it serves, speaking out publicly and on the record in support of sexual and reproductive health even in the face of opposition, or or otherwise demonstrating a proactive commitment to reproductive health care and abortion access." - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates
