Veteran Dad Calls Out ASD on Radio: Why We Must Uphold American Values in Our Schools

ree

Happy Veterans Day! As we honor those who've served our nation, it's a fitting moment to reflect on the values that bind us; liberty, equality, and service. That's why I called into Mike Porcaro's show on 650AM KENI yesterday to address the Anchorage School District's troubling decisions: adding disclaimers to our founding documents and omitting Veterans Day from the school calendar. As a Veteran and Dad with two daughters in ASD, and a candidate for the Anchorage School Board, I'm committed to schools that instill pride and purpose in every student and respect the institutions that make this Republic great. Let's build on our strengths to prioritize safety, parental choice, quality education, local control, and unapologetic American values... because our kids deserve better than 46th in the nation.

Alex: Hey, how you doing?

Mike: Hi, Alex. Yeah, I'm good. Thank you.

Alex: Good, good. Yeah, I hear you guys talking about the education nonsense, and that is one of the reasons why I'm running for the school board this time around again. You know, I am a Veteran. I've got 2 kids in the school district, and this kinda stuff has been going on for a long time. And I figured, you know, I had to stand up the last go-round and put my hat in the ring. And I- I-have an, some unfinished business going around, so, you know-I'm still here. I would be-

Mike: I'd say so.

Alex: Yeah.

Alex: Like this is absolute nonsense. And I'm, I'm sitting here typing up an email with all the, the, uh, offers and restaurants that are giving away free meals to Veterans tomorrow, to send out to all the guys on base. And, you know, I, I hear you guys talking about this and this is just absolutely crazy.

Mike: Well, it is crazy. I mean, you know, you, the Declaration of Independence and-

Alex: Yeah.

Mike: and the Constitution, I mean, you, you put a disclaimer on that thing? Come on. I mean they don't even-

Alex: Right. I mentioned that- to my kids yesterday and, and they-they had a hard time believing that too. And they're, they're only 10 and 12 years old. They know better. So how do the adults in our school district not understand?

Mike: Well, that and then they don't even recognize Veteran's Day on their calendar.

Alex: Yeah, I think I heard you guys talking about that a- around, uh, Columbus Day, you know, when, you know-

Mike: Yes.

Alex: They listed on there as an Indigenous People's Day, which I understand being in Alaska, which is fine, but you, you can't just erase Veterans, because that is part of our American values. And that's one of the points-

Mike: No, and you can't-

Alex: I'm running on. You can't, Yeah.

Mike: And you, and you can't erase Columbus either. It's an official holiday.

Alex: Right. Yeah, it's a national holiday. Okay. It's pretty simple. I don't know.

Mike: Well, Alex give us, give us your full name and-

Alex: Oh, yeah.

Mike: and, and tell us, uh, your website. Go ahead.

Alex: Yeah. My name is Alexander Rosales and running for the Anchorage School Board second time around and the website is www.alexforschoolboardak.com. And you can find me on all the socials @AlexForSchools. And I've got about 175 videos out there now this, this time around already.

Mike: All right. Well, you know, good luck to you. Stay in touch with us. If we can be-

Alex: Yeah, appreciate it.

Mike: helpful, let us know because it would be nice to have somebody that's, um, you know, grounded

Alex: Yeah, I, I listen

Mike: -and understands how things work.

Alex: to everything you guys talk about on the air. Pretty much every day I listen to you guys and, you know, I'm taking what you guys say to heart and running with it, so appreciate what you guys are doing.

Mike: All right. Well, thank you. I hope you, uh, I hope you are successful and we'll do whatever we can to help.

Alex: Awesome. Thank you, Mike.

Mike: All right. Take care, Alex. All right. That's good-
