My Call As a Veteran and Dad To Uphold American Values In Our Schools

Standing Up for American Values in Anchorage Schools

As a proud dad of two daughters in the Anchorage School District, a veteran who served our country to defend the principles enshrined in our founding documents, and a dedicated educator with hands-on experience in our schools, I'm running for Anchorage School Board in the April 7, 2026, election. My campaign is built on unfinished business: ensuring student safety, empowering parental choice, delivering quality education, restoring local control, and upholding American values. These aren't just words; they're the foundation of why I'm stepping up again to serve our community.

Recent reports about the Anchorage School District adding a "does not endorse" disclaimer to copies of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence have sparked rightful concern among parents, teachers, and veterans alike. According to coverage from Must Read Alaska, this disclaimer was placed on materials donated to schools, stating the district does not support the viewpoints in these historic documents. While the district claims this is standard procedure for donated items, it sends a troubling message at a time when our kids need to embrace the ideals of liberty, equality, and self-governance that define America. Especially on the week of the Marine Corps 250th birthday and Veteran's Day; of which, the Anchorage School District has removed from its official calendar.

As someone who swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution and deployed 6 times over my 20 year career, I see this as a missed opportunity to celebrate our nation's core principles without apology. Our schools should foster pride in American values, not distance themselves from them. Alaska ranks 46th in education nationwide, and incidents like this distract from the real work: creating safe environments where every child can learn without fear, reducing oversized classes, and cutting administrative waste to focus resources on students.

If elected, I'll push for policies that integrate respect for our founding documents into curricula in age-appropriate ways, while prioritizing:

  • Student Safety: Every child deserves to learn without fear of violence or disruption.

  • Parental Choice: Parents, not bureaucrats, know what's best for their kids' education.

  • Quality Education: Let's climb out of the bottom rankings by focusing on basics like reading and math proficiency.

  • Local Control: Empower teachers and parents over distant mandates.

  • American Values: Instill pride and purpose, starting each day with a sense of unity and respect for our shared heritage.
